Shrewsbury School - Centre Facts
Shrewsbury is renowned as a traditional independent school. It was founded in 1552 and has, amongst its famous ‘old boys’, Charles Darwin, Lord Rees (the current Astronomer Royal) and Michael Palin. It has an exceedingly fine campus with both historic and state-of-the-art buildings. The facilities for study and recreation are top rate – including a large IT suite, theatre, assembly hall, art studio, music school and DVD ‘cinema’. Sporting facilities include football pitches, Astroturf, tennis and squash courts, indoor hall and a brand new 6-lane 25m indoor swimming pool. This centre offers students workshops and challenging activities relating to team-building and leadership skills. These are designed to develop confidence, decision making and communication skills. The Tennis Option is also available at extra cost.
Accommodation
Accommodation is in three boarding houses –either newly built or recently modernised. There are single, twin and multi-bedded rooms (3-5 beds) all newly refurbished and of a very high standard. Some single rooms have en-suite facilities.
Access
The school is located across the River Severn from the thriving market town of Shrewsbury. The nearest airport, Manchester, is approximately 1.5 hours by road; London Heathrow is approximately 3 hours.
